By Josue Munoz, Supply Chain Management Student
I am currently a senior majoring in supply chain management in the Naveen Jindal School of Management at The University of Texas at Dallas. I began my college career at Oklahoma State University, where I played Division I football but decided to transfer after my freshman year. I considered several universities but knew it was important to find a university that had high academic standards as well as a nationally ranked supply chain management program — and where I could continue playing collegiate sports. I found all that at UTD.
I chose to study supply chain management because it is a field that has a lot of potential for growth. In the past few years, a lot of companies have come to realize just how essential the supply chain is to their overall business landscape.
From a sports focus to an academic focus

I chose to study supply chain management because it is a field that has a lot of potential for growth. In the past few years, a lot of companies have come to realize just how essential the supply chain is to their overall business landscape. JSOM’s supply chain management program has allowed me to expand my network and connect with Fortune 500 companies for possible internships and full-time job offers. These opportunities have all been presented to me through my professors, program directors and the many career fairs that JSOM organizes.
Expanding my horizon: NCAA Athletics/Organizations/Study Abroad
As a member of the men’s soccer team, I have been able to travel across the United States to compete against other NCAA Division III universities while representing UTD.
I am also highly involved in three organizations: Radio UTD, Meteor Theater, and the Center for U.S.-Latin America Initiatives . My participation in these extra-curricular activities has allowed me to develop my communication and teamwork skills. These skills have helped me in the classroom, during interviews and in preparing me for my future career, all while I make new friends and connect with other students.
Study abroad has always been of great interest to me, but I thought it would never be a possibility for a transfer student. UTD allowed me to achieve that dream through their six-week summer program in Oaxaca, Mexico. I was able to study the language, culture and history of Mexico while improving my Spanish. UTD provides countless opportunities for students to travel the world while obtaining valuable skills that will boost their résumés.
